Calling all Men
One of my strongest convictions for the Eastside Campus is that in our own strength, with our own human wisdom and resources, we will not accomplish anything on the Eastside. Jesus’ words continue to ring in my ear that “apart from me we can do nothing” (John 15:5).
If we can’t do anything without him it leads me to believe that we better figure out how to seek him. Matthew chapter 7 gives us some insight:
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
This is a shout out to all men to figure out how to adjust their schedules and come together for prayer once a week. We will be praying for each other, for the needs of our church and for our community. Our prayer meetings are one of the most critical ministries in our church. I truly believe that. Charles Haddon Spurgeon once said, “As the prayer meeting goes, so goes the church”.
In prayer we express and demonstrate our dependency on God. In prayer we are admitting that apart from him, we can do nothing. And so we are ask in faith that our faithful Father, who loves to give good gifts to his children, will respond and do wonderful things in us, in our families, in our church and throughout our community.
