Update: On mission in SoCal

Mars Hill Bellevue, here is an update from our brother Jake Chambers, who has been called by God to start a church plant near the San Diego State University campus in partnership with Kaleo Church.  I’d encourage everyone to pray for, and send their support to, Jake and his wife Lindsey as they take on the work of bringing the lost to Christ by His grace!

Thank you all so much for your prayers and support. This week Jake and Lindseyhas been both incredibly productive and encouraging. I will give you some highlights along with some upcoming things too.

  • Sunday: we had 35 people over for a homemade lasagna dinner that Lindsey made from scratch.
  • Monday: I met with YL Area director Rob Clark and Young Life College director John Byard – they are really excited about Kaleo SDSU and John has invited me to all the YL training meetings, club events etc! Linds and I also went on a prayer walk around campus with a couple on staff with the Navigators.
  • Tuesday: I had my first Acts 29 regional luncheon and got to pray with some local pastors and we hosted our first Missional Community at our home.
  • Wednesday: I got my first late night counseling phone call from a student that nearly woke me up… LOL!
  • Thursday: Got to help Young Life college welcome freshmen to the dorms by helping them move in.
  • Saturday: Helped Campus Crusdade with freshmen welcome.
  • Sunday: I will be preaching my first sermon at Kaleo SDSU. I am doing a two-week series on how to live a life of gospel intentionality.

So, lots of praises for all the meetings this week and would love your prayers for the welcome events this weekend and that the Lord would speak through me on this Sunday and next. Thanks again for all your prayers and support!

Jake

PS. As you may know, I am raising my own support for the first few years of this church plant.  If the Lord puts it on your heart to send support, you can mail checks to this address:

Generous Campaign: Supporting Mars Hill Bellevue

Mars Hill Bellevue is helping kick off a church-wide effort to raise funds for a number of local ministry needs and our global effort to see as many churches and disciples of Jesus as possible. Why? Because God has been generous to us. By donating above and beyond regular church giving, we have a unique opportunity to start the new year strong and gain some ground in our mission to share Jesus with the world.
