Pastor Chris Swan
Family – Susan (wife of 17 years), Isabel (nearly 10), Paige (7), and Liam (due in August)
Role at MH – Campus Pastor
How did you come to Christ? - I came to Christ while a junior in high school. My parents and younger brother were new Christians and members of Mercer Island Covenant Church, and they tirelessly prayed for me and shared the Gospel with me (while making me attend services with them as well!) The night my heart changed forever, a group from Jews for Jesus was visiting and the Gospel was preached yet again to me and I could not deny it as truth, nor did I want to anymore.
How did you first come to Mars Hill Church? – I have known Pastor Mark Driscoll and his wife Grace since before the days of Mars Hill. While the church was meeting at the Earl location, I did a church planting Internship with Pastor Mark that turned into an invitation to join the Acts 29 Network.
What work did you do before coming on staff at Mars Hill? – After high school, I was a Navy Corpsman and a Marine Corps Field Medic. I was a pre-med student for a bit while managing a free Dental service, and did some construction for a handful of years, too. I was a member of Antioch Bible Church for 10 years and did an Internship as the College Pastor and then as a Church Planting Intern. For the past 7 years I was a church planter with Acts 29, planting Seaside Church in Bremerton, Washington .
What in the Bible is on your heart right now? - I’m currently studying Job. I can resonate with him well on some points. I have been meditating on Job 16:19-22.
What are some things you are praying about right now? – Since I am new to the Bellevue Campus, my initial prayers have been for the Lord to grant me favor with the people, for me to be able to hear from Him on how He desires for us to show the love of Christ to the Eastside, and for me to remain in pursuit of humility all the while.
What is an activity you like to do? – Honestly, I like anything where my wife is involved. Gratefully she likes most everything I do, so we spend a lot of time together. She can fish, throw a spiral, shoot hoops, and look good doing them.
What’s your favorite food? – I LOVE food, and literally almost type, from every culture. Sushi for breakfast is one of my latest likes.
